Visit to Food Processing Industry
With an aim to go beyond academics, Department of Life Sciences organized an industrial visit for the students of B.Sc. (Hons) IInd year Biotechnology & Microbiology students at Safal flour mill, Mandsaur on 19th Oct 2019. The objective of the visit was to aware students about how processing of wheat is done, how it is converted to different types of flour like rava, suji, maida and flour used for making of different food items.
The resource person of this visit was Mr. Yogesh Garg, Director & Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Technical Operator.They gave a brief description of wheat storage, cleaning, grinding & packaging details.Wheat milling involves cleaning of wheat thoroughly to remove dust, stone, insects & other foreign matters by air pressure, magnets and sieves. 45-46 ton of wheat is cleaned in one hour. Clean wheat is tempered before grinding by treating with water so that the bran is separated from the endosperm. The tempered wheat is crushed between corrugated rollers. The first break rolls are set relatively far apart to grind the wheat lightly, while successive break yield finer and finer products such as maida, suji, rava and aata. After checking final product quality, these send for the packaging.Industry visits helps to enhance interpersonal skills and communication techniques. Students become more aware of industry practices and regulations during industry visits. It is a bride between theoretical training & practical learning in a real life environment. Students get knowledge about processing of wheat.
