Brief description/ Remarks:

The Faculty of Pharmacy has organized a Webinar entitled “Scope of Generic Product Development in India” on 10/05/2021 for the university students, research scholars and faculty members.

Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Principal & Dr. Vishal Soni, briefed about the theme of the webinar to all participants. He introduced the keynote speaker Mr. Amit Bukkawar, Assistant General Manager, Complex injectable development, MSN Laboratories Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.

Mr. Amit Bukkawar explained about the scope of Generic Product Development in India. He explained about the regulatory requirement for the manufacturing of the generic products. A generic version of the same drug uses a different name called the generic name. Whenever a drug is invented and fits the criteria for patentability, a patent is granted to the applicant for up to 20 years, giving the owner of the intellectual property a limited marker monopoly to recover their expenses. After the patent expires, the drug falls into the public domain and becomes available to use without license. The WHO defines a generic drug as a pharmaceutical product usually intended to be interchangeable with the originator brand product, manufactured without a license from the originator manufacturer, and marketed after the expiry of the patent or other exclusivity rights.

Mr. Amit Bukkawar actively interacted with all participants and answered all the important questions raised by the participants in a very elaborative and informative way. Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Coordinator and Dr. Vishal Soni, Co-coordinator of the webinar expressed vote of thanks to the keynote speaker and all participants.
