The Faculty of Life Science has organized a hands-on workshop entitled “Sequence Alignment and its Applications”

Faculty of Life Sciences

Year/semester:  B. Sc. Microbiology VIth Semester
Activity:  Workshop on Sequences Alignment and its Applications
Date and Time: 16/02/2021, 02:10 PM to 04:10 PM.
Title:  Workshop on Sequence Alignment and its Applications

Resource person/agency and affiliation:

Dr. Ganshyam Prajapat, Assistant Professor, Faculty of  Life Science, Mandsaur University, Mandsaur

Brief description / remarks:

The objective of this workshop was hands-on training of different sequence alignment tools and their various applications. Along with this, students also learned how to retrieve DNA/RNA/protein sequences from the GenBank database.
The workshop was organized by the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS), MU, Mandsaur on 16th February 2021 and attended by B. Sc. Microbiology VIth Semester students. The coordinator gave hands-on training related to sequence alignment tools such as CLUSTAL Omega, MUSCLE, and MEGA software. Along with this, students also learned about alignment applications such as phylogenetic tree construction and evolutionary analysis.

Outcome :

Students learned about sequence alignment and its applications. This will help the students in future research projects or dissertation work. By accessing the NCBI database and sequence retrieval, students interest in the subject increases significantly.

No. of participants: 06 students
