Brief description/ Remarks:

The Faculty of Life Sciences has organized one day hand on workshop entitled “Workshop on identification of human blood groups” on 10 February, 2021 for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.)VI Sem Microbiology & B.Sc. (Hons.) IV Sem Biotechnology. “Blood type” refers to a specific pattern of reaction to testing antisera within a given system. Over a period of time, our understanding on blood groups has evolved to encompass not only transfusion-related problems but also specific disease association with RBC surface antigens. A blood test is a laboratory analysis performed on a blood sample that is usually extracted from a vein via finger prick. Blood tests are often used in health care to determine physiological and biochemical states, such as disease, mineral content, pharmaceutical drug effectiveness, and organ function. The workshop was organized with the aim to make students learn about the method of identification of blood group. During the workshop student came to know about their own blood group and they also learnt about the type of blood group which can be donated and received.

Outcome:  All the participants actively participate in the workshop. It helps to acquire the knowledge of method to identify blood group type. Such type of workshop helps the students to find applications in numerous disciplines of medicine, particularly in the fields of organ transplantation, oncology, rheumatology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology, psychiatry, and dermatology.
