Brief description/ Remarks:
Faculty of Life Sciences has organized hands on workshop for the B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology I Sem students on 17th Feb. 2021 on “Analysis of milk and its products”. Milk and milk products have a good balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate and are a very important source of essential nutrients, including potassium, B12, calcium and vitamin D, which are lacking in many diets. Milk is also a good source of vitamin A, magnesium, zinc and thiamine (B1).
In the workshop students learnt about the structure and functional group present the Carbohydrate, Protein and Fat. They also apply chemical test like: Molisch test, Fehling test, Benedict test, Iodine test, Barfoed’s test and Xanthoproteic test to ensure the presence of carbohydrate, protein and fat. Students learnt about the composition of the solution, processing of the above test, observe the inference for the same.
Outcome: All the participants actively participated in the workshop. They learnt above tests and apply the same on the milk and other samples and check the presence of the same. It will be helpful to peruse carrier in dairy industries. Such activity makes students more curious and also helps them to grow and promote research. A student’s critical thinking skills also increase in a hands-on learning environment.
