International Dance Day celebration
April 29th, 2017 is known as International Dance Day, also called as World Dance Day, and is celebrated through promotion by the International Dance Council (IDC). The day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born in 1727, a French dancer and ballet master and a great reformer of dance.
On this occasion, Department of Life Science organised “Solo Dance” competition, “Do the hook step” and “Dance form Quiz” for students of life science and agriculture. A brief knowledge of various Indian classical dance forms like kathak, Mohiniattayam, Sattriya, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Bharatnatyam; folk dances like Kalbeliya, Bihu, Choliya, Giddha; regional dance forms like Ghoomer, Bhangra, Garba, Lavani and western dance forms like salsa, ballet, jazz, tango, Hip Hop, and ballroom was given to students by Prof. Urvashi Anand. The Students were enlightened by the knowledge that they received through this program. Students participated enthusiastically in this event and enjoyed the performances. Jaypal Singh, Student of M.Sc. Microbiology, got first prize for Solo Dance competition, Chanchal Borana, a student of B.Sc. Biotech. Won “ Do the hook Step” competition and Yashashvi Rao, a student of B.Sc. Biotech., Won the “Dance form Quiz”. Student of M.Sc., Arjun Kumawat conducted the event.
