Brief description/ Remarks:
Biochemistry aims to understand the fundamental chemical principles that govern complex biological systems. It is an interdepartmental major between biology and chemistry that emphasizes the importance of a solid foundation in the natural sciences, including mathematics and physics. Biochemistry based practical have industrial importance. The Faculty of Life Science has organized two days hand on workshop entitled “Determination of sugar and synthetic colorant in commercial fruit juice product” on 5-6 February, 2021. The workshop was organized for 2 days with the aim to make students learn about the quantitative analysis of nutritional value of food product and also be able to detect qualitatively and quantitatively the synthetic colorant if used in food products.
Day 1 emphasized on the wet lab performance for both the types of determinations.
Day II was basically based on mathematical concepts and calculations for quantitative detection.
The techniques which were used during the workshop was UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and Chromatography.
Outcome: All the participants actively participate in the workshop. They learn the practical approach of advance techniques related to Biotechnology and Microbiology. The workshop was beneficial for the students who are making their mind to join Life Science based industries as well as it will also help the student to pursue carrier in the field of Research and development. Such type of workshops helps the department to grow and promote research.
