Go Further with Food

National Nutrition week 2018 starts from the 1st of September and lasts up to the 7th of September. With umpteen options for junk, refined sugar and sodium-laced foods, nutrition is slowly vanishing from the plates. Decreased nourishment isn’t just caused by lack of food but also by replacing nutritious food with excessively refined junk food. These innutritious foods slowly killing us each day, it has become absolutely necessary for us to go back to our bases and include protein-rich, high-fiber, good fats rich foods to our diet. Moreover, According to UNICEF, In India 20 per cent of children less than five years of age suffer from wasting due to acute undernutrition. The National Nutrition Week is observed to celebrate nutrition and healthy eating and thus making aware citizen from every grade.

For celebrating and making aware about the National Nutrition Week, Faculty of Life Sciences has taken an initiative by organizing   different competitions entitled “Go Further with Food” for the students of B. Sc. (Honours) Biotechnology and Microbiology on 1st September 2018, between 1.10pm to 3.30pm. Celebration consists of three competitions such as “ Story Writing with a suitable title on Good Health” for final year students, “Preparation of healthy diet menu chart for seven days in a week including breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner” for second year students and “Nutrition based Quiz competition” for first year students. All the competitions started sharp at 1.10pm at college campus with the explanation of rules and regulations to be followed while participating to the contestant. Priyal Sethiya B.Sc (Honours) Biotechnology Vth semester is the winner for story writing competition. Sakina Tinwala (IIIrd Sem B.Sc (Honours) Biotechnology) begged the first rank followed by Bulbul Ved (IIIrd Sem B.Sc. (Honours) Biotechnology) and Shreyash Gourh (IIIrd Sem B.Sc. (Honours) Microbiology) was in second and third rank respectively. In Quiz competition Group E has been declared for the first rank whereas Group C and Group F begged second and third rank respectively.  Dr. Shekhar Jain, HOD, Life Sciences, was also present in the programme.  Mrs. Farha Ansari, Asst. Professor and Mrs. Meenakshi Jain, Asst. Professor also attended the programme and assisted in the smooth conduction of the same. Dr. Taniya Sengupta Rathore was the Coordinator for the competitions.
