Brief description/ Remarks: 

Faculty of Life Sciences organized two days workshop on “Advanced Tools and Techniques in Biological Sciences” for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th (Biology) Students of MIS, Mandsaur on 21st and 22nd January 2021. The workshop was specifically meant for the school students, with the objective to familiarize them with the advanced facilities available in the department.

Workshop started with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Shekhar Jain, HOD, Faculty of Life Science, in which he enlightened the students about the significance of this workshop and briefed about the courses, lab facilities and placements of the department as well as job opportunities available in the field of Biotechnology and Microbiology. During the 2-Days workshop, demonstration on various advanced instruments  with the working principle, SOP and  job prospects was given by following expert faculty members of Life Sciences department-

  1. Taniya Sengupta Rathore: Gel Electrophoresis, UV spectrophotometer, Laminar Air flow, Colony Counter and demonstrated blood group detection test.
  2. Ashish Warghane: PCR and ELISA Plate reader
  3. Khushdil Khan: Plant tissue culture and Cooling Centrifuge
  4. Teena Yadav: Camera attached light microscope
  5. Heena Shah: Fermentor, Rapid Antigen Test for the Detection of Typhoid Pathogen
  6. Meenakshi Jain: Microtome

All the participants have enjoyed the workshop and get exposure about the facilities and lab environment available in the department. They expressed a deep sense of gratitude to the department and University for giving this opportunity. At the end of the workshop a brief summary of the event was given by the coordinator Prof. Heena Shah. The Valedictory session of the workshop was graced by the presence of honorable Vice-Chancellor of Mandsaur University, Dr. Shailendra Sharma. During his interaction with students, he enlightens them about wide range of courses and facilities available in the university. He motivated them to visit various departments of MU as per the subject interest. He appreciated the initiative taken by life sciences department and answered various queries raised by school students about the future aspects. The engagement of all the participants appreciated by providing them with the participation certificates. In the concluding remark, Dr. Shekhar Jain expressed vote of thanks to all the higher authorities of Mandsaur University for providing such an excellent facility to the department. He also proposed thanks to Principal and faculty coordinator of MIS, all the participants and organizing committee of Life Sciences department for making the event successful.

The whole event was hosted by Ms. Ritika Jain, student B.Sc. Biotechnology Sem-VI and coordinated by Prof. Meenakshi Jain and Prof. Heena Shah, Assistant Professor, Life Sciences.

All the faculty members of the department have actively contributed for making it a successful event. The program was organized by following all the COVID guidelines.


Outcome:  All the participants enjoyed the workshop and learned about the role of instruments and various techniques in the field of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Most of the students also shown their interest in the courses running in the Department of Life Sciences. Positive feedbacks were received from students by feedback form. Students have also shown a desire to participate in such types of upcoming activities.
