Brief description / remarks:
“Cultivating of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence” the famous quote has been said by well- known statesman B.R. Ambedkar. He was the person who believes in equal rights of every individual. He devoted his whole life upliftment for the women and caste system specially in favor of Dalit in the society. In this context Department of Journalism & Mass Communication had organized one day webinar on the topic “The Journalistic legacy of B. R Ambedkar” Assistant Professor Arun Jaiswal was the coordinator of the program. Dr. Sandeep Madhulkar Sapkale Assistant Professor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha (Maharashtra) and Mr. Jai Singh, Field Publicity officer, regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Govt. of India was the keynote speaker for the program. Dr. Sandeep Madhulkar Sapkale briefed about Ambedkar and newspapers relation he said 3 main newspaper ‘Mooknayak, Bahishkrut Bharat, Janata and Prabuddha Bharat started by Ambedkar. His career as a journalist did not last long. One of the very fascinating aspects of Ambedkar’s journalism is manifested in his firm belief that Journalism should not blindly cater to the masses.
Mr. Jai Singh laid his focus on the life of Ambedkar how he devoted his whole life to fight for the annihilation of caste by proliferating a movement against the evils of the caste system. Being a Dalit itself he made all the possible efforts to change the hierarchical structure of the Indian society towards Dalit, untouchability and justice to the marginalized section.
In last part of the session Head of the Department Dr. Manish Jaisal too shared his views on Legacy of Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution in drafting the Indian Constitution where he also discussed about the fact that ideology of Gandhiji and Ambedkar on certain topics has never matched which we can see in Mooknayak newspaper where he had opposed the non- cooperation movement started by Gandhiji.
The Main outcome of conducting this webinar is to impart the knowledge of Ambedkar’s ideology towards society among our students and also to celebrate his 130th birth anniversary and discuss his contribution as a social reformer, Journalist, politician, Educator and lawyer.
