Brief description/ Remarks:
Department of Civil Engineering has organized a field activity on “Collection of Soil Sample & Determination of Field Density of Soil” for B. Tech (3rd year) & Diploma (2nd year) students.
The density of soil subjected to change when disturbed and upon remolding, Hence it is required to perform a field test to find the actual parameters of soil. Precaution required to be taken while collecting the sample improper handling of soil can result into false results. The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate the methods to collect the sample also field density test of soil is determined using sand replacement and core cutter method by the students. The above test is frequently used in the field as a part of preliminary investigation of soil.
- Students performed sand calibration to find the density of sand to be used in the test.
- Sample extraction is carried out by students and precautions to be taken during the same is discussed.
- Test such as Sand replacement and core cutter test is performed by the students and analysis is performed on the quality of the soil.
- Concept of field test and purpose of doing this test is explained to students.
