Title:Group Discussion on “G 20 Summit in India & Impact of Social Media on Youth”

Brief description / remarks:

Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering has organized a Group Discussion on “G 20 Summit in India & Impact of Social Media on Youth” for the students of B. Tech and Diploma second to final year students on 5th October, 2023 in two rounds. The purpose behind conducting this activity was to enhance the confidence of students in public speaking, placements as well as development of their soft skills so that they get prepared for their group discussion during interviews in campus recruitment process. The topic of discussion in the first round was “G 20 Summit in India” related with the current and global concerns of our country and its impact on our economy in the future which led to the understanding of the fundamentals of the economic policies with respect to the current scenario. In the first-round total of 55 students participated and 16 students were selected for the second round whose topic was “Impact of Social Media on Youth”. This topic led the students to understand the pros and cons of social media in the current scenario along with its impact on the society.   Some of the important points that were discussed were as follows: –

  1. Focusing about the climate action discussed in G20 summit.
  2. About the IMEC and its impact on business environment in future.
  3. Understanding the importance of G20 summit in India.
  4. Illustration of the utilization of social media for good and bad cause.
  5. About the other dark side of the social media regarding privacy, integrity and the data issues regarding data sanctity.

Outcomes:

  1. Students found various prospects about the current economic scenario as well as it led to overcoming the fear of public speaking and enhanced their skills. 
  2. It also helped the students to explore about the futuristic development and effect on society.
  3. The students also learned how to take measures in effective utilization of social media. 
  4. This activity made the students to be aware about the improvements in their own verbal and non-verbal communication skills which was one of the primary objectives of the discussion.
